Doug Gordon played fast, short pop/punk songs. Otto Von Bon (drums/vocals) was aided and abetted by Giggles McFeely(guitar/vocals) and Smoot Fountain (electric bass/vocals).
The seed to Doug Gordon was planted when Otto and Smoot played a one-off gig in College Station with a cover band called Paranoid. About six months later, Otto, Giggles and Smoot began jamming just for fun. During the fall of '94, Otto began using Doug Gordon as an outlet for his songwriting (which was being ignored by his other band, Funkettle). The group went through many name changes including Lucifer Sam and Rabid Lupids, but finally settled on Doug Gordon (named after one of Otto's good friends).
In the spring of '95, the group eventually recruited Jay Sheedy (from Funkettle) to play drums so Otto could play second guitar and have an easier time singing. Doug Gordon recorded two songs ("Tempted" and "You") for the élan CD (which also includes songs by Funkettle and the Sheepdogs).
Doug Gordon only played one show. The performance not only included the originals "Tempted", "You", "Country Song", "Taxi Driver", "Born Dead" and "Pizza Girl", but also covers of Black Flag's "White Minority", Minor Threat's "Think Again" and some other forgotten songs. The group broke up when Otto went off to college.
