| Long live shitty pop/rock music! That's right, folks! Pelican Stride carried the torch of dumb rock 'n' roll; a link between the Knack and Fastball. The group consisted of: Ryan Valdez: keyboards/vocals, Charlie Campbell: bass/vocals/guitar, Scott Everett: drums/vocals and Chris Davis: guitar/vocals. |
| Ryan wrote wannabe Pearl Jam songs, such as "High Horse" and "Blue Never." Chris' writing was much more diverse with songs like "Just Another Bitch" and "Spider" (Chris was a big Smashing Pumpkins fan, but these songs sounded nothing like them). Charlie wrote and sang a few songs: "Embryo", "Fog" and "Castaway". At the time, Charlie was a big Genesis fan (early Genesis with Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett), but his only song that came close to sounding like progressive rock was "She Flies"--a fifteen minute exploration of psychedelia. This song was only played live once…due to the fact that it ate up a third of their set and--in general--no one, except Charlie, liked it. The band lasted for about a year ('93-'94) and played a few shows at some clubs in Fort Worth, TX, but broke up due to musical differences between Ryan and Charlie…plus the fact that Ryan was a complete asshole. |
